Background of the study
Tracking student progress is a vital aspect of the educational process, as it allows educators to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. In secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State, traditional methods of tracking student progress, such as manual assessments and reports, can be time-consuming and prone to error (Haruna & Adebayo, 2023). As the education sector continues to embrace technology, there is an opportunity to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into the monitoring of student progress, making it more accurate, timely, and personalized.
AI-based systems can leverage data from various sources, such as assignments, quizzes, attendance, and behavior patterns, to provide real-time insights into a student's academic development (Sani & Bello, 2023). These systems can offer personalized recommendations for improvement and alert teachers to students who may require additional support. This study aims to design and implement an AI-based student progress tracker for secondary schools in Zaria, enabling educators to make data-driven decisions and improve student outcomes.
Statement of the problem
Secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area lack a comprehensive and efficient system for tracking and analyzing student progress. This study seeks to design and implement an AI-based student progress tracker to enhance the monitoring of academic performance and improve educational outcomes.
Objectives of the study
To design an AI-based student progress tracking system for secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
To implement the AI-based system and integrate it with existing educational processes in selected secondary schools.
To evaluate the effectiveness of the system in improving student performance monitoring and supporting intervention strategies.

Significance of the study
This study will contribute to the improvement of student progress monitoring in secondary schools, offering a more accurate and efficient approach to tracking performance. Scope and limitations of the study
The study will focus on designing and implementing the AI-based student progress tracker for secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area, Kaduna State. The study will evaluate the system’s effectiveness in monitoring student progress but will not extend to other regions or educational levels.
